Black Friday: Buying Local, Buying Made in Vermont
This holiday season, I’m opting out of the traditional box store shopping binges and foregoing plastic. I’m not only buying local, but I’m buying handcrafted in the USA, supporting both local businesses and the online handmade mega house Etsy. Shocking? Maybe, to some at least. Beyond the growing “buy local” craze is a growing momentum of buying handmade in the USA from home-based artisans and crafters, many of whom are selling their wares on sites like Etsy and Artfire. Vermont History Expo 2012: Vermont in the Civil War
This weekend my husband and I are ridiculously excited to take our daughter to her first Vermont History Expo (not that she will remember it, but we will take lots of pictures) at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds. In addition to being an awesome high school history teacher, my husband is also a Civil War re-enactor with the Hemlocks. (Have I mentioned that we met at an American Revolution course for teachers in Virginia? We also got married at the Old Stone House complete with a contra dance – we are quite the history nerds!)
