This past Saturday I took a home cheesemaking class at the Old Stone House in Brownington. It was lovely as there were only two students (although the first class sold out) so it was really hands on. Jana Lovejoy of Apple Ledge Farm in Coventry was our teacher and she was awesome! Not only did I learn about making cheese, but I also learned a lot about being a full-time farmer. It’s incredible that Jana has any time left over for teaching classes as she is also very involved in the community. Vermont History Expo 2012: Vermont in the Civil War
This weekend my husband and I are ridiculously excited to take our daughter to her first Vermont History Expo (not that she will remember it, but we will take lots of pictures) at the Tunbridge Fairgrounds. In addition to being an awesome high school history teacher, my husband is also a Civil War re-enactor with the Hemlocks. (Have I mentioned that we met at an American Revolution course for teachers in Virginia? We also got married at the Old Stone House complete with a contra dance – we are quite the history nerds!) The Trout Are Jumping!
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Spring trout season opened April 14 and the fish are really jumping in Orleans! My Dad is here visiting from Florida so I thought it would be fun to take him and my 8-month-old to Willoughby River in Orleans to watch the steelhead rainbow trout attempt to swim up the rapids. Free Harry Potter Movie Showings at Catamount Arts
If your child (or family) digs Harry Potter, you won’t want to miss the upcoming free Harry Potter series at Catamount Arts. Beginning June 25th, Catamount Arts will show the Harry Potter films in order, beginning with THE SORCERER’S STONE, ultimately leading up to the final movie release date on July 15th. The series is free and open to all.
